Mayor Morishita

Nationality: Yu Dao

Abilities: Firebending

Job History: Mayor of Yu Dao

Relationships: Father of Kori, husband of Mrs. Morishita

Issue Appearances: "The Promise - Part One"

Current leader of the original Fire Nation colony in the Earth Kingdom. When the Harmony Restoration Movement was announced, he was livid and stood fast to his belief that the Fire Nation had just as much right to remain on the land as the Earth Kingdom, their unique civilizations having come to co-exist peacefully for generations. Even when approached by the Fire Lord himself, the mayor spoke his mind with enough fervor to get Zuko to reconsider his stand and devise another way to achieve lasting peace between the four nations.

Mrs. Morishita

Nationality: Yu Dao

Abilities: Earthbending

Relationships: Mother of Kori, wife of Mayor Morishita

Issue Appearances: "The Promise - Part One"

A quiet and demure woman, she was raised in the Earth Kingdom and became a powerful Earthbender, though was able to take a husband who hailed from the Fire Nation. Thus, she shared in her husband's belief in a multicultural civilization, going so far as to Earthbend in defense against Fire Lord Zuko, potentially putting her life on the line for what she stood for.

Lao Beifong

Nationality: Earth Kingdom

Job History: Founder and co-owner of Earthen Fire Refinery

Relationships: Father of Toph, husband of Poppy

Character History: The Last Airbender

Issue Appearances: "The Rift - Part One"
"The Rift - Part Two"
"The Rift - Part Three"

After years since his daughter departed their home in Gaoling to join the Avatar, he had a fateful meeting with her at his refinery in Yu Dao. He refused to acknowledge her existence, and asked that she and her friends be forcibly removed from the building. Toph barged into his office later to talk, but all he knew was the girl he raised, the polite flower he treasured was gone, so there was nothing more to say.

But when faced with certain death in the mine, he admitted that he'd broken up with her mother after they were unable to get her back, and he threw himself into work, but that he could never stop loving the daughter he raised. When Toph used her full power to make sure everyone survived, she told him that she is the strongest Earthbender in the world, and he's never had the chance to love who she really is.

Once they were safe, and General Old Iron threatened the Earthen Fire Refinery, Lao told Toph that to him the building was a symbol of unity between the nations, and humbly asked that she protect it from the vengeful spirit with all the power of the greatest Earthbender in the world, music to her ears.

Satoru

Nationality: Yu Dao

Job History: Refinery engineer

Relationships: Nephew of Loban

Issue Appearances: "The Rift - Part One"
"The Rift - Part Two"
"The Rift - Part Three"

A brilliant mind who designed many of the technological advancements found at the Earthen Fire Refinery. He has an affinity for Toph, she having discovered and mastered a bending style even the Avatar himself could not perform. He strikes a deal with her to sponsor a new building for the Beifong Metalbending Academy in return for her students using their abilities to maintain their machinery.

Loban

Nationality: Yu Dao

Job History: Founder and co-owner of Earthen Fire Refinery

Relationships: Uncle of Satoru

Issue Appearances: "The Rift - Part One"
"The Rift - Part Two"
"The Rift - Part Three"

Lao Beifong's business partner in the very first joint venture between Fire Nation and Earth Kingdom. He's a stern man who has very little faith in Satoru's ability to lead the company.

He will do anything to turn a profit, including excavating iron ore from directly under Yu Dao, a venture which destabilizes the foundation of the entire city, forcing an evacuation of not only the mines but the city itself. When he steals General Old Iron's mask, a near-fatal fall from the spirit's head inspires him to give up his greedy ways.

Kunyo

Nationality: Yu Dao

Abilities: Firebending

Job History: Firebending teacher

Issue Appearances: "The Promise - Part Two"

A Firebending teacher who fled from his school in solidarity with the Harmony Restoration Movement. When Fire Lord Zuko withdrew his support from the operation, Kunyo proudly returned to his dojo, only to find that Toph had commandeered it and was training her own students. This was a great offense to Kunyo, who wished to fight her for the building, even when shown her unique Metalbending ability, resulting in a spear being wrapped around his head that he proved unable to remove thereafter.

He accepted Sokka's offer to have his students duel Toph's for the right to the school, which Toph's students won easily, their metal coins only being heated by the Firebending of Kunyo's class, which made them even more painful to be pelted with. After being attacked personally, Kunyo abandoned his academy in shame.

Nutha

Nationality: Southern Water Tribe

Job History: Miner

Issue Appearances: "The Rift - Part Two"
"The Rift - Part Three"

An old friend of Katara's, back before she left with Aang to end the Hundred Years War. Since peace prospered across the globe, it seems the South Pole still hasn't seen the greatest of advancements, leading members of the Water Tribe to seek employment opportunities elsewhere simply to stay afloat. She holds a grudge against Katara for having forgotten where she came from, but after nearly dying in a cave-in, she realizes that it's all so petty.

Niyok

Nationality: Southern Water Tribe

Job History: Miner

Issue Appearances: "The Rift - Part Two"
"The Rift - Part Three"

A friend of Katara's from the South Pole who now makes her livelihood digging for iron ore in Yu Dao. It's not glamorous, but anything to make enough to send back home to her family.

Cabbage Merchant

Nationality: Earth Kingdom

Job History: Cabbage merchant

Character History: The Last Airbender

Issue Appearances: "The Rift - Part Two"

After having very bad luck with his inventory selling directly from a cart, he's been able to achieve some success in Yu Dao by opening a cabbage-themed restaurant, every single item on the menu having cabbage as an ingredient. His cabbage cookies are a delicacy, they taste just like sugar cookies... only cabbage-y.
